London Metal Exchange copper prices are widely used as a global reference for refined copper supply, demand, and expectations. Copper raw material, recycled copper, and scrap transactions in Taiwan often monitor this benchmark, but the prices do not move in perfect lockstep.
Scrap is not standardized refined copper. Copper content, contamination, batch size, exchange rates, sea or land transport, inventory, and regional demand all affect a transaction. During rapid market moves, quotation validity and delivery timing become especially important.
Businesses should record material grade, actual transaction terms, and timing alongside the LME figure. Consistent classification and batch records make it easier to understand how market changes relate to the value of their own material.
